I am looking for a specific statistic with a link or citation. I am asking what percentage of American people favor a test that must pass to see if they qualify to vote.
Does anyone know statistics about whether the majority of Americans would favor a voting test?
50% would not take it 25% would fail, 19 % would cheat 5% would guess
1% care
Reply:Does the asker of this question know that there is a federal law -- the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which was recently renewed -- which forbids literacy tests?
Reply:All American citizens at least 18 years old are guaranteed the right to vote by law, regardless of their level of incompetence or their location on the road to hell.
That means that the donkey who dropped out of high school and can't even read, who doesn't want a job because he does better selling crack cocaine on the street, and who is on parole after serving time for murder, rape, armed robbery or aggravated assault, has the same right to vote as you do. Sleep well.
Reply:Voting is a right that belongs to everybody, and not a privilege like driving for which one must show a certain skill. Even though an election doesn't go your way is no reason to attempt to exclude people. What would you put in your test? Is George Bush a great guy? The test itself would be biased. Stop taking away people's rights.
Reply:It doesn't matter. Diebold still control the elections.
Reply:They can't even count the votes right, not that it
really matters.
There will never be testing for voting. Never.
The post above me, you can't vote if you are guilty
of a felony crime. He named a few.
Reply:That would disenfranchise a lot of people. Why would you want to exclude so many people from voting?
Reply:I will check at the university history lab. I am a full time Michigan student with a minor in American History. Our Lab has all kinds of current political data. I will get back to you by Friday Nov. 17, 2006.
Reply:I would agree with one.
