I've never taken a similar math course, but have taken College Algebra and Trigonometry. I peaked at the text at the bookstore and I'm a little scared.
Other than learning statistics, what can I expect from my summer statistics course?
You can expect mind numblingly boring calculations for most of your summer. The mathematics behind statistics is fairly elementary, it's the staying awake and alert part that's difficult...
Good Luck, I had to take Statistics in college, and I have to say... It was the best one hour nap 3 times a week a person could possibly ask for...
Reply:I'm assuming the Statistics course you will be taking is the lower level version since the higher version requires Calculus. I wouldn't worry too much unless you worry about a lot of memorization of formulas and plug and chug methodology. Statistics is data based so computers might come in handy to use. The only thing that bugged me in statistics was graphing by hand. I love to use software to help me solve that like SPSS or SAS which you enter data and they make the graph for you.
Well than again word problems do arise in Statistics so if they aren't your forte a review in word problems from Algebra can help.
Have a good summer and good luck in the course. ^_^
Reply:If you join a summer course in Statistics, you may develop interest %26amp; knowledge in that subject and you may become well known Statistician.
Reply:You can expect to get an introduction to the single most important thing I learned in college. I ended up getting a math major coupled with my econ major; I had some measure of success in joining the corporate workforce, without having a masters.
Stats run the world. The media, history and analysis can be skewed or presented accurately depending on how statistics (and it's derivatives) are used. I use a lot of statistical concepts at work but it's not like I'm calculating z-scores and doing 5-way ANOVA all day. But I do use stats to do business analysis for a publicly traded company. Nutshell: Just take away concepts and your golden. Good luck.
