The theft includes Auto theft,Bank theft,Credit card theft,Data theft, and power theft.Kindly help me to get some information regarding the volume of these.
From where can I have the statistics of various kinds of theft in the world?
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_to...
Here's a start. I think you're going to have to search by specific type of crime by country...so ask "bank theft statistics by country", etc.

Statistics - What is the probabillity it last another 25 hours if it has already lasted 40 hours?
Given the following
probability a battery lasts at least 40 hours is 0.95
probability it lasts at least 65 hours is 0.7.
What is the probability that it lasts at least another 25 hours, given that it has already lasted 40 hours?
Statistics - What is the probabillity it last another 25 hours if it has already lasted 40 hours?
Naturally, the way to do this problem is to use conditional probablities. P(it lasts 65 hrs | it lasts at least 40 hrs) = P(it lasts at least 40 hrs and it lasts at least 65 hrs)/P(it lasts at least 40 hrs). But obviously, it must have lasted at least 40 hours if it lasts 65 hours. So the probability is .7/.95 = (7/10)/(19/20) = (20/10) * 7/19 = 14/19.
Reply:P(at least 25 hours more] already lasted 40 hrs) = (.95-.7)/.95=26.3%
probability a battery lasts at least 40 hours is 0.95
probability it lasts at least 65 hours is 0.7.

What is the difference between an outlier and a serious outlier in Statistics?
One type of investment's Lower Inner Fence (LIF) is 1.6875 and its Upper Inner Fence (UIF) is 5.3875.
Also, its Lower Outer Fence is 0.3 and Upper Outer Fence is 6.775.
Is the yield of 1.55 and outlier? or a serious outlier? please explain the answer if you know!! Thanks a lot.
What is the difference between an outlier and a serious outlier in Statistics?
I've never heard the term 'serious outlier'.
1.55 is outside the lowerinner fence but inside the lower outer fence
So based on what you describe id say an 'outlier' and only if its outside the outer fence would it be a 'serious outlier'
But I'm guessing I've never heard those terms.

Where can I get a free statistics tracker for fanstasy leagues?
I am currently have some fantasy teams on yahoo! and I was wondering if there is a free statistic tracker website similar to yahoo! statTracker. Thanks.
Where can I get a free statistics tracker for fanstasy leagues?
Hey, there are two websites, http://www.stattaxi.com and sitchu that can provide live stats-- both for basketball. I personally prefer Stat Taxi as you can save your team (through a login) and can use copy-paste from your yahoo team page to easily add your team instead of picking from a dropdown like in the case of SitChu. Other features include being able to have multiple teams in case you want to monitor your opponents team and being able to bench your players.
Also, the creators of StatTaxi are usually pretty good at getting back to you if you have any problems. I requested the ability to bench players and the next day, the feature was there!
Currently, they support both NHL and NBA live stats.
Hope that helps

Free Stat Tracker, you can add players you want
Reply:Try http://www.sitchu.com or their Live Stats page http://www.sitchu.com/LiveStatsPage.aspx (Sitchu NBA Live Stats). The main thing that's great about the site is that you can add your players and see their stats get updated in close to real-time. They show information on the game/period clock (a must have) and it's easy on the eyes!

Is Math Analysis equivalent to Calculus or Statistics?
I took Math Analysis years ago and can't remember what the focus of study was (what an impression). Anyway, I may be applying to Med School in a few months. They require a semester of Statistics and another of Calculus. Is Math Analyis considered one of those subjects? Just wondering if they would honor it.
Is Math Analysis equivalent to Calculus or Statistics?
Sorry.
Math Analysis is equivalent to Pre-Calculus. It is a step above Algebra II and is often coupled with Trigonometry in high school classes.
FYI, Math Analysis is usually just before Stats and Calculus.
Good luck if you do apply!
Reply:Math analysis is definitely different from Statistics and Calculus is a pre-requsite to Math Analysis
Reply:Analysis is not equvavlent to either really. In analysis you are setting everything up formally so you can do calculus. But the actual calculus you do is very basic so would not be the same as a full calculus course.

What is the difference between an outlier and a serious outlier in Statistics?
ANSWER: YEILD OF 1.55 is neither a "outlier" or a "serious outlier".
Why???
A YEILD (observation) is an "outlier" (candidate) if it lies outside the interval (Q1 - 1.5 IQR, Q3 + 1.5 IQR)[Lower Inner Fence, Upper Inner Fence].
A YEILD (observation) is a "serious outlier" if it lies outside the BOX PLOT interval (Q1 - 3 IQR, Q3 + IQR) [Lower Outer Fence, Upper Outer Fence].
YEILD of 1.55 is not outside either of the intervals. YIELD of 1.55 is inside both of the intervals.

Is there a web site with these statistics?
There's alot of talk about illegals, for and against, and alot of statistics. For example, how many Mexicans are legal and how many are illegal, who gets benefits, that sort of thing. Can you give me a link to a web site to learn more?
Is there a web site with these statistics?

http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/back120...
(-FYI: This one is from 2004. The levels of immigrants got even higher.)
-It's hard to tell which Mexicans are legal or illegal unless you ask them. Hispanics (including those that pass through Mexico) cause the biggest problem. So, many people automatically think that anyone that speaks Spanish constantly or with a thick accent is illegal- and, to a certain extent, this is a stereotype that makes sense. Before you call me a "racist" (a word that lost its meaning and is now used by people who can't defend their points), let me explain:
There are seven immigrants in my class. (Two transferred out last year and a few more came in.)
One is from Poland, she is legal.
One is from Mexico, he is legal.
Other five are from Mexico- they are all illegal.
-Anyone else have any examples? Cases like this are becoming increasingly common. We can also judge from the flags that we saw on the days of those illegal immigrant protests. I saw one Polish flag, one Canadian flag, and the rest all from "Latin America".....

there is a lot of info out there, and I have read some of it in local newspapers.
___________
Here are some statistics from the Los Angeles Times:
40 percent of all workers are working for cash and not paying taxes. Why would they want to be legal and pay taxes? They would be able to start bringing the rest of their families to the USA.
75 percent of people on L.A.'s most-wanted list are illegal aliens.
Over two-thirds of all births are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by the taxpayers.
Nearly 25 percent of all inmates in California detention centers are here illegally.
Over 300,000 illegals are living in garages.
The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegals from south of the border.
Nearly 60 percent of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
Of the 10 million people in Los Angeles County, 5.1 million speak English and 3.9 million speak Spanish.
21 radio stations in Los Angeles are Spanish speaking.
More statistics:
Less than 2 percent of illegals are picking crops but 29 percent are on welfare.
Over 70 percent of the U.S. annual population growth (over 90 percent of California, Florida and New York) are from immigration.
29 percent of inmates in the federal prisons are illegal aliens.
The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a negative.
They also send between about $15 billion back to Mexico to assist their families and prop up the corrupt Mexican government that keeps most of its citizens in poverty. How about a revolt in their own country!
A new figure from yesterday: It cost Los Angeles $276 million in welfare costs for 100,000 children of illegal aliens.

Where can I find statistics on University education in the 3rd world- esp Africa?
I would like to know how many students attend these universities and how much aid funding these universities and students receive to buy books. Also if their publishing industry is subsidized in view to the university market. Anything in this regard would be very helpful I'm looking at South Africa in particular, but anything about the 3rd world would be great.
I'm doing research into initiatives aimed towards the 3rd world in terms of aid for university Textbooks/education, and whether these initiatives have a positive impact on students.

Is there a free place I can research the trends and statistics of certain small businesses?
I want to understand the good, the bad and the ugly of what has happened in the last twenty years to present in the personal beauty industries (especially spas, laser, microdermabrasion, etc.). There has to be good data out there but I can't find it and just keep getting these services that charge to research this for you. Any help would be appreciated!

Try this site. Once you get there click on the contact link. They may be able to direct you to something that may help you.

What are the miscarriage statistics during the first trimester with a heartbeat?
Drops to 5% after "seeing the FHB" on ultrasound, and to less than 1% after hearing on doppler.
What are the miscarriage statistics during the first trimester with a heartbeat?
What I've heard:
2% after a heartbeat is heard, but age and whether the mother has had a miscarriage before should be taken into account.
I think it can be no more than 20% though.
Reply:I heard my baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks and lost my baby 2 weeks later. I've never had a miscarriage before. They don't know the cause of the miscarriage. It may have been stress. I hope things are ok for you. Good luck.

Where can I find statistics about how crime is related to tinted windows on cars?
Cops are always saying "it's dangerous because we can't see whats in the car when we pull it over" really? well you can't see whats in a van either... and when you knock on a door, you can't see what's behind the door either, so that reason doesn't hold water. I want to find out how many cases there are where harm came to a cop from a car with tinted windows.
Where can I find statistics about how crime is related to tinted windows on cars?
Well i live in Cleveland and acouple of yrs ago a local Cleveland cop pulled over a speeding car in down town cleveland. The car had tinted windows all around. When the cop walked up to the drivers window he was shot and killed! It was a stolen car that had not been reported yet. Probably if the windows were not tinted so much the officer would have seen the shot gun and be alive today. I,m sure his kids would have liked knowing there father!
Reply:Cops make stuff up. Ask the local or state cops to explain where they get statistics.
You gotta know it's creepy, though, not knowing if there's a gramma or a gangsta in there.
Reply:I agree with you, but I don't know any sites on information however, In florida a little girl stole a car and ran from the police in it the windows were as dark as they could get and the cops ended up shooting into the car to stop the girl from trying to run over deputies, thats why they are making laws now. But I think we should be able to have dark windows if we want. Cops can't see behind doors so what do they want next clear doors, and also the darker the window the less uv light that someone gets

Reply:I eat 5 full meals a day, not including snacks
Reply:I eat 3 meals a day... I don't think you'll find much variation in this question as eating 3 meals a day is pretty standard and common.
Reply:three bigger meals and three snacks

Where can I find statistics on the response rate in affinity group surveys?
I'm researching the details regarding a survey that would be distributed to our company's clients. So far, I have been unable to find out what sort of general response rate I can expect, particularly in light of the fact that this survey will involve some sort of incentive for completion.

Dear ResearchMongrel,
Your pertinent question and urgent curiosity has unfortunately, been buried under more legitimate concerns. If you don't get an answer within 24 hours, it is best to delete your query and ask again.
ResearchMongrel, I would like to take this opportunity to express my personal opinion. You have been foolish, ResearchMongrel. Very, very foolish. Anyone can see that the purpose of Yahoo! Answers is to serve as a modern chatroom. More and more, Java programming is becoming less and less supported, there is no other method of bringing people together in a social environment than to create PHP scripts where the "thinking" can be done on the server rather than on your machine. With that in mind, ResearchMongrel, you should interrogate the shallow-minded participants of Yahoo! Answers with matters that appeal to their common denominator. Questions such as, "How long is the normal tally whacker?" or, "My boyfriend says I should dump my hubby, what you think?"..., would get you a substantial number of replies.
Give up your pursuit of truth and petty wonders, ResearchMongrel. Quit asking bland, colorless questions. Are you naive? No person who is capable of giving you the answer you hoped for can last while reading though a heap of puddings, pies and pastry. I'm only doing you a favor, ResearchMongrel, by giving you a proper admonishment you can now begin to formulate an apology. When you are ready, send your atonement to http://surveys.yahoo.com/user_ad_feedbac...
And ResearchMongrel, if you insist upon asking serious questions, remember that a few good jolts from a peace officer's tazor should bring you around to your senses. Please, check your spelling and throw some slang into the mix so you don't offend any of the egos lurking, waiting to pounce on you with crass, thoughtless one-liners.
Thank you ResearchMongrel, and have a great day!

Where can I find statistics on bicycle theft?
I am doing a report on locking bicycles and the probability of being stolen. I have no idea where to look. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
Where can I find statistics on bicycle theft?
If you are looking for theft from like a public place, I would check the local police department. I think they have statistics on these sort of things. But if you are looking for bikes taken from stores, talk to the stores...
here are a couple sites I found by searching bicycle theft:
http://www.nationalbikeregistry.com/thef...
http://www.bicyclesource.com/bike/theft/...
http://www.springfield.il.us/Safety/Poli...
Reply:Hard statistic in the US are going to be hard to find for just bicycles.
In the US most crimes are reported to the U.S. Department of Justice for statistical purposes. So you would think that they would have it. The trouble is it is not broken down that way.
The basic Uniform Crime Report (UCR) code does not break down to the level of bicycle theft. A specific municipality or state may have a code for it and keep bike statistic but there are none I no of.
The basic UCR was developed to track trends. It does not have all crimes in it just those the developers thought, at the time it was designed, that people would report. Theft (larceny) is something that is included (included crimes are all called part 1 crimes). It is broken down as to the worth of the item, over or under $300.
Good Luck.
You can find all kinds of crime stats and info at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/

I had 1 character left over in my question box, but I don't need it.

Someone asked this yesterday. Or you could go on the Internet "percent" "illegal immigrants" "prison" etc. That is what I did.

Where is a good place on the net to compare crime statistics for certain cities?
I am basically looking to compare the city I work in (as a paramedic) to the city by buddy works in. I think we have had more homicides so far this year and was looking for the numbers to back it up. Thanks!
Where is a good place on the net to compare crime statistics for certain cities?
Jeez I just looked but the book is too hard to dig out right now. Try looking up a book on the web called The American Almanac. It is available through the government printing office. Its published and updated every two years. You will find every statistic about the United States that you can imagine. Want to know the average price of rock salt year by year in this country? Its there! Good Luck Bob Post Script It may also go by the name of A Statistical Abstract Of The United States. Funny coming from our government, if you decide to buy this book you will probably pay shipping but NO TAX.
Reply:How about the US Dept of Justice? They have crime stats / rates online.

What are the crime statistics for the Serra Village section of Salinas, CA 93908?
We're thinking of buying a home in this area and feel it's a safe place to live but would prefer to have information on what crimes have been committed in this housing area before we do.
What are the crime statistics for the Serra Village section of Salinas, CA 93908?
Ask your real estate agent or the listing agent. That's what they are paid to handle.
Reply:Toro Park is very safe. Little crime, no drive-bys.
I would stay away from East Salinas and some parts of North Salinas, but the rest, especially the outskirts (like Toro Park, Las Palmas, Hwy 68) are very safe.
Reply:The only professional that can answer that question is a police officer in that area. I suggest you contact the police department.
Reply:AM is wrong they cant tell you if an area is good or bad. They can lose their license over this. They will say call the police. I will look for a few more places, but this site will get you a great start.

It looks pretty high compared to national and california average. This is just one site. As the other poster said call the local police.
Here is a website that shows a graph. But it looks pretty high. This will give you all the demographics for that county. Im sure its not the worst but its far from the best. It will break it down by crime as well.
http://www.movoto.com/neighborhood/ca/sa...
But remember a county is pretty big, at least where I live. We have some of the worst crime in our county. But the city I live in in the same county is the safest in probably the nation. The crime is probably 20 miles away. I never even go there. So dont judge it on county alone. Call the city you will live in.

I need backup for a piece of coursework and can't find any anywhere only online debates. Any ideas? Thanks.
Where can i get statistics on school uniforms?
I'm sorry, but I really don't understand that question?? What sort of statistics do you need? Like how many people wear them, or how much the average one costs or whether people thing they should be worn or what?!
I found a couple of articles on google (links below) but i don't know how useful they are to you coz i dont know what you are looking for.
Sorry I couldnt be more help, but maybe you could explain the question a bit clearer for other people who might be able to help?
Reply:Why would a teacher give a student such an assignment.
There is no place to go for what you want. You will have to do some resurch on your own. I would bet that is why you were given that question. If you chose it then you should have thought before you volenteered.
Most of the statistics you read are made up so just figure out an educated guess.
Oh, by the way there is nothing wrong with having to wear school uniforms and all should wear the same or they go to another school. More nations have uniforms for school students than those that do not. Most of the time the students do look much better than places where anything seems to go. The USA has some of the worst dressed students I have ever seen around the world. England is becoming just as bad.

They keep leaving different reference numbers and a contact telephone that is not in the Government web page.

It's a scam. Just SPAM it. Don't open it and read it. They want all your information to take your identity and money.

How do the World Health organisation make use of health statistics?
Also how do the government make use of them?
I've looked through all my books and can't find any sort of answer, i'm not very good at answering questions like this!
Thanks
How do the World Health organisation make use of health statistics?
WHO has its representative offices almost in every country of the world where its consultants work analysing these statistics, working with the local governments to prevent diseases, decreasing their occurance, helping them both with experties as well resources.
WHO organises World Health Assembly after every few years where all these facts %26amp; figures are analysed by representatives of all countries %26amp; new plans are made in addition to going through the results of old ones. A comprehensive report is published for all countries.
Reply:http://www.who.int/about/en/ and click on publick health and who, things like this are useful for eliminating diseases, they tracked down every case of small pox and treated it the world is now free of it except three cases of it were kept but not in humans just the actual disease, and they are kept for weaponary use, by america, UK and Russia :(

Is there such a thing as an online Master of Science degree program in Business Statistics?
I want a master's program in applying statistics in business situations, but not a master's program in statistics. I'd also prefer to not get an MBA, unless the MBA program has an aggressive focus on business stats and marketing research and quantitative analysis. Any good ideas?
Is there such a thing as an online Master of Science degree program in Business Statistics?
There probably is an on-line degree like that. Here is your first business statistics question:
What is the probablility that you will get a good job if you get a graduate degree on-line?
(hint -- not very good).
My advice -- get an MS in Operations Research from a real college -- or get an MBA from a good school where you take all your electives in Operations Research and Decision Sciences.
Reply:Look at University of Phoenix, Caplan or Capella

Is elementary statistics similar to college algebra?
I took college algebra last semester. I still have to take elementary statistics. Should I skip a semester in between the 2 math classes? I'm afraid I will forget the Algebra stuff before taking statistics. Are they similar?
Is elementary statistics similar to college algebra?
Like most studies, Mathematics benefits from practice. The two classes have similarities and you statistics studies will be easier with a firm grounding in algebra. I'd recommend you take it right away with no break - your math muscles are toned up now - don't let them atrophy!
Reply:its ok to skip as long as elementary stat is not a pre requisite of algebra...or otherwise

Should I take calculus or statistics AP?
I am currently in high school and I can take an Advanced Placement math course in either calculus or statistics.
I want to study business and commerce in University, which math course should I take right now and why? By the way, any kind of math is easy for me so wether one is "harder" than the other don't matter.
Thanks in advance.
Should I take calculus or statistics AP?
Can you take both?
You will probably need both for your degree - so if you can't take both, find out if you can receive college credit for either one and take that one.
In my statistics class we learned how to attribute data to different types of graphs, compute probability and determine - through careful reading - which learned formula to use in which situation. Really, picking the right formula to use was the hardest part. After that, it's just plug and chug.
Calculus incorporates trig identities into finding derivatives and integrals... good algebra skills and knowledge of trig identities are a must.
I don't think either are "hard" per se, but if I had to I'd say calculus is the more challenging of the two.
In college I took statistics before calculus, simply because it fit my schedule better, although calculus was recommended first... Got an A in both.
Good luck, have fun!
Reply:If you're going into business, Statistics is going to be more useful because you'll probably have to take a business statistics class. Honestly, I can't imagine your having to apply differential calculus in business.
Reply:Statistics would probably be better for business/commerce. I'm not sure entirely how useful it'd be -- the best I can think of is that you will learn how to interpret the reliability of data, graphs, and studies for yourself.
AP Statistics also doesn't use any math beyond some complicated algebra, which makes it somewhat easier than a calculus class (in my opinion). However, I always found it a bit more confusing because there's a lot of different formulas and you have to remember a lot more terminology than you would in a regular math class like calculus.
Perhaps try checking the websites of prospective colleges to see what kind of credit they'll give you for good AP scores in each class (if this is a concern). Otherwise, I'd go with the Stat class.
Unless all your friends are taking calculus, that is ;)
Reply:depends on what ur good at...
but at an advanced level, calculus is also used in statistics...
i'd suggest u think about what you'd do better and then decide...

I want to study business and commerce in University, which math course should I take right now and why? By the way, any kind of math is easy for me so wether one is "harder" than the other don't matter.
Thanks in advance.
Should I take calculus or statistics AP?

Where can I find a list of reports, surveys or statistics about alcohol and drug addiction?
I'm looking for more sources about alcohol and drug addiction because I'm finishing my homework. I really love the topic and I really want to present a nice report. I'm not doing this just for the grade but I'm also doing this as a way of spreading awareness so that my classmates will not turn out to be alcoholics and drug addicts.
Where can I find a list of reports, surveys or statistics about alcohol and drug addiction?
What a nice student! I really admire your desire of spreading social awareness. I've posted two links below to help you with your report. Try to do a good job, okay? Be a role model to your classmates. Keep it up!

Where can I find the statistics for how fortunate we are to be safe, fed, sheltered and literate?
There was a list of statistics I once saw about how we in the west represent a tiny fraction of world peoples who are fed, clothed, relatively safe and free. Anyone remember this and can tell me where to find it or how to look?
Where can I find the statistics for how fortunate we are to be safe, fed, sheltered and literate?
. There are 100's of stats about how lucky we are to be where we are. Just knowing that should be enough.
I suppose you could Google 'World Statistics' or something similar.
"Best countries in the World"?
What's the purpose? It's not like anybody is gonna argue.

If you're looking for some good old fashioned, flag waving, nationalist jargon, look no further than your local religious center, country music store or GOP convention. You may be interested in some information about how lucky you are to not be the target of an intolerant, violent and militaristic cadre of lechers and villains. See source 1.
Other than that, try researching blood diamonds, military spending and the history of south American from the colonial period onwards. But if only there were a way to find this information lost in a giant network of computers. Some sort of engine that would search for you. If I were to make such a thing, I would name it after the sound I make when I find something good. A name like "Yippee!" or "Horay!" would be close.
If all your looking for is numbers to pad your delusions of grandure, try source 2.

What are the statistics on people that die by their own guns then those that dont own guns?
You may want to rethink the question then withdraw it. In your confusion you have answered yourself.
What are the statistics on people that die by their own guns then those that dont own guns?
As with any "statistics question" I'll have to know what you are trying to prove before I can point you in the right direction.
The numbers, in and of themselves, do not lie. But how they are complied can change the outcome!
Trying to prove that gun ownership is inherently dangerous and should be heavily restricted or outlawed ... Check out handgun control incorporated (Jim Brady's group) or the Center for Disease Control.
Want to prove that not owning a gun is inherently dangerous? Check the NRA website for your stats.
Trying to get plain, unbiased statistics on this issue ... good luck!
Reply:I am willing to bet that more people die by their own gun than those who don't own guns for the simple fact that it is hard to die by your own gun when you don't own one.

Are all the statistics about low income true? Does everyone living in limited means become a criminal?
I'm writing a essay and I need some help. I want to prove that just because someone is low income they don't have to be at risk!
Are all the statistics about low income true? Does everyone living in limited means become a criminal?
not everyone on a low income is a criminal but i can see why some are i grew up in a low income house and got myself out of the bad neighborhoods but alot of ppl i grew up with did not make it out they took the quick money way of drugs or robbing and stealing alot are either in jail or dead i do understand why they chose this route when they saw all the nice things on tv or got tired of being made fun of at school because of the clthes that they wear and then someone comes along and says hey if u hold this for me and give it to this person ill give u some cash then all of a sudden ur immediate problems are solved u can wear the nike and polo signs u can go get some food from the resteraunt without thinking of the consequences of jail or death
hope i gave u some insight to the not so glamorous side of life
Reply:You can't put every class of ppl into nice neat little groups ,everyone is different. Some ppl will commit crimes. It's like asking you if you would steal a loaf of bread to feed a starving child.
Reply:Because one cannot AFFORD to live in a high income area does not mean that one is a criminal. It's all about economics. The overwhelming majority of the world would be considered low income...thank goodness the overwhelming majority of the world is good.
Reply:I doubt that everyone living on limited income becomes criminals. I think its how you were raised, and how you handle the situation. If you were taught good work eithics from you parents and mentors than you'll get yourself out. But I'm sure that some do become criminals.
If the only way to feed your family is to rob the gas station down the road, otherwise they are going to starve, you do what you have to, to get by.
This to me is amazing when most cities have places you can go to get free food.
I don't know about the other statistics of low income so I can't answer you on the rest, and i don't want to go looking. I think its how you are raised, if your parents did it or were ok with it you will be too (for the most part)

What are the statistics on, how many car-buyer customers are scammed by their auto dealers?
One out of every "how many" customers get screwed with additional accessory or profits on their contracts. Please let me know the source in which you retrieved this information. Let me know the site. I have already tried all the statistic sites and I'm not finding the proper wording to find this information, so please let me know.

How do you use foward selection to pick which statistics model is best in multiple linear regression?
I am trying to to find the most efficient model when there are 5 regressor variable and they do not all have the same colinearity.
How do you use foward selection to pick which statistics model is best in multiple linear regression?
If you're using software like SAS, forward selection is an option you can select in building a regression model.
If two variables are colinear, then only one will be significant. Try running a model two times with only variable in the model, and see which version has the higher R-squared.
Reply:Some stats software will do it for you. I really like Minitab.
I would suggest that you use a step-wise method to find the "best model." In this case you will add and remove (forward and backwards elimination) to find the "best" model. Minitab will do this as well.
I don't like the forward selection method. There are just to many different tracks you can end up taking.
If you don't want to do a step wise, use backwards elimination so you start with the largest possible model with all the individual factors and all interactions. Start removing the highest level interactions if the p-values indicate you can. Remember that if you have a significant interaction then the main effect must remain in the model even if there is no evidence to show that the main effect itself is significant. It is because of this fact and models I've seen in my work where a main effect is not significant but an interaction is that I don't like forward selection.

Can anyone provide statistics on turnovers and how they equate to victories?
For example, how often does a team with a -5 in the turnover category win the game like the Cowboys did tonight?
Can anyone provide statistics on turnovers and how they equate to victories?
they did this a couple years ago after analyzing thousands of games-and teams that were +1 or better won 85% of the time

It has all the statistics for everything in the history of the NFL. Just look in the records category for TEAMS and you will find all sorts of info from who has lost the most games in a season and then go to win the super bowl and everything.
I am sure you will find your answer. They have almost everything.

A player attempts a field goal but his shot gets swatted away at the basket. The defender gets called for Goaltending, but does Player A get a Field Goal Attempt in the game statistics?
How are these basketball scenarios put into statistics?
On the stat sheet:
A: The shot does count as a shot taken and missed.
B:The shot counts as a shot taken and made.
Reply:by your own words both are a shot by the offensive player
that's the only way you can get a shot blocked
now inscenerio A if the defensive player knocks the ball loose before any shot attempt is made the player isn't charged with a shot but the defensive player doesn't get a block either
he has stolen the ball
the player has to be in a shooting motion for a block to be made and if it is knocked loose before a shot it's a steal (or deflection depending on if the ball stays inbounds or the defensive player recovers it)

What are the statistics on # of people diagnosed with Schizophrenia?
Serious answers please. This is for school.
What are the statistics on # of people diagnosed with Schizophrenia?
About 1% of the population. Link included.

Of those diagnosed around the world it is about 1% of the population; that is not caused by external reasons such as drug use. But this is a serious subject and cannot be answered in a subjective manner. good luck.

What are the statistics for accidents caused by cell phone usage while driving?
A person is about four times more likely to cause an accident if they are talking on a mobile phone whether it is held to the head or hands free (sadly the crap thiru sprouted about brain damage is untrue, mobile phone radiation just isn't dangerous to humans).
Patrick W: Stop causing accidents.
What are the statistics for accidents caused by cell phone usage while driving?
Your car is not a phone booth on wheels. If you need to make a call pullover, it's that simple. Yes, it would also be nice to get drivers to actually pay attention to their driving instead of getting dressed, eating breakfast, shaving, etc. No multi-tasking while driving, ok?

How would I compare two lists of values using statistics?
I have two different lists of values about the same thing extracted in a different way. I want to compare these lists and see how similar/different they are statistically to be able to evaluate the one of the two methods. How would I do that? What formulas should I exist? Thanks!
How would I compare two lists of values using statistics?
you could use the student t test, the normal test or a permutation test. depending on the data set you many even need to look at multiple regression or ANOVA/ANCOVA. What exactly is the data sets that you are looking at? Do you have paired data? Is it two samples? There are many other question to answer before the right testing method can be selected. send me an email via answers if you would like some for information and help with this.
Reply:just graph them, or take a standard deviation

What kind of statistics test should I run on this data?
I have 7 participants who took three tests: a control test and two experimental tests. So all together I have 21 scores (each participant has 3 scores). Should I do an ANOVA? I need help please also explain why you would do this test to because I would like to actually understand.
What kind of statistics test should I run on this data?
Yes, you should use Analysis of Variance.
The null hypothesis for ANOVA is that all the means are equal to each other. The alternate hypothesis is that at least one of the means is different form the others. ANOVA takes into account of the multiple means and can be used for comparing any number of means.
If you were to use t-tests, for example, to test to see if there is a difference between the test means then you would have to perform three hypothesis tests, control vs treatment 1, control vs. treatment2 and treatment 1 vs treatment 2.
If you conduct each of theses tests at the 5% level then you have a 95% probability to draw the correct conclusion. With three independent tests you have (0.95) ^ 3 = 0.857375, meaning you have a 0.142625 probability of a Type I error.
Say you had four means to compare then you have a (0.95) ^ ( 4 choose 2) = 0.95 ^ 6 = 0.7350919 of a correct conclusion; 0.2649081 probability of a Type I error.
The ANOVA takes into account the multiple comparisons so the probability of a Type I error is the same as the significance level of the the test. If you do use multiple t -tests you can use multiple testing corrections such as Fisher's LSD (least significant difference) or Bonferroni's correction.

What is the name of the person that calculates statistics for insurance companies?
And how do u go about taking the tests that they have to take before they get that job. Im a math major and im lookin for that info...thnx
What is the name of the person that calculates statistics for insurance companies?
You're doing good to be a math major. Math or statistics majors do excellent in this field. You would want to take courses in actuarial science, business, finance or economics and accounting, too, if you still have time. Computer science classes are also a plus. On the contrary to another answer you received, insurance companies look VERY highly on designations, and often require them, especially for jobs in the actuarial sciences. Having an ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) is very good. Depending on what part of insurance you think you want to be in, there could be different focuses for you to explore.
I would start at the Society of Actuarial Sciences or Casualty Actuarial Sciences (or something similar ... I forget the complete name) to look further. Don't forget interning ... that is definitely a way in the door, especially at top firms like Nationwide, Allstate, Farmers, etc.
Good luck to you.

There are 10 tests to pass %26amp; as you pass each one, your salary increases (as long as you have gotten a job as an actuary). Take classes in actuary science if available at your school or in your area. With a math major I am assuming you have computer science classes, I had to take several %26amp; that was 24 yrs ago! Take business %26amp; finance classes too if you can fit them in to your schedule. Expect that any insurance company is going to want you to have a GPA of 3.8 or better, just to get your foot in the door. There is a Society of Actuaries %26amp; they have a website. www.soa.com There is a section on it about exams %26amp; courses. There is a ton of information there. Good luck to you. If you like numbers and statistics, this is a great field. It can be very lucrative too.

Who has any statistics tips for easily remembering the difference between permutations and combinations?
I read the difference and am having a hard time with them. Does anyone have any advise on how to make it a little more simple?
Who has any statistics tips for easily remembering the difference between permutations and combinations?
In permutations the order matters while in combinations it does not.
12345 and 23451 are different in permutations but the same in combinations.
Now if I wanted to know how many ways I could line up 10 people in front of the class it would be permutations. If I just wanted to pick groups of 10 for a team it would be combinations.

What are the statistics of getting pregnant, when not using a condom?
I had sex for like the first time last night without a condom. (it had come off earlier some how) and my boyfriend ended up cuming inside me. Its been around fourteen days since I had my period last and aparently that is when a girl is most fertile. what is the chance of me being pregnent? Its also too late to take the morning after pill. (which I dont want to take anyway.) I am seventeen years old.
What are the statistics of getting pregnant, when not using a condom?
pill 72 is there you can take in 72 hours to avoid the
pregnancy
Reply:your chances of being pregnant are very high, and the morning after pill will do you no good, the point of the morning after pill is that its a boost of hormones to get rid of anything that might be there and to get rid of it, but you can only take it within the first 24 hours of it happening, id say go to the doctor right away and see what they can do, cuz really the chances of you being pregnant is around 80-90% and maybe next time keep the condom on and check it, and even go on birth control, don't be another pregnant teen t statistic
Reply:It's not too late to take the morning after pill - you have up to 72 hours after having intercourse to take it, however there's a higher chance of being pregnant
Next time you have sex, use some sense and use a condom and birth control. Just because 'it came off' isn't a good excuse. Weren't there anymore?
Reply:If it happend last night...it isn't to late to take the pill. I believe you have up to 48-72 hours and they are like 15 bucks at walmart. I would call your doctor and see what he or she says to do.
The chances are pretty high! And even better since your both in your prime and you weren't on any other form or birth control. If you don't start the day your supposta I would say take a test. Because your gonna me a mommie!

If this happened last night you need to take the pill tomorrow as soon as you can. Good luck. You might want to talk to you parents or mom about this. That way she can take you to the Dr and get you on the pill. Or planned parent hood might be able to help you with that.

you can still take the morning after pill but if you don't want to take it then you should just wait untill your next period time and take a test if you miss

How could I create a model that uses statistics for home price appreciation history?
Like, would it be a bell curve? How many standard deviations are we from the mean home price appreciation etc.?
How could I create a model that uses statistics for home price appreciation history?
Just thinking out loud here:
I would imagine that you would have to have a 'starting point' in time like when the house was first built or sold and then increments of time and the associated appreciation (or depreciation). For the actual price of the house you would have to use actual selling price or maybe even the tax appraisal value. All of this would be influenced heavily by the location of the houses you are considering. In the US housing price history would be very different from one region to the next.
So, with your $ values and associated time increments (1 year, 2 year, whatever) you could analyze the data:
After 1 year, X% went down or went up, or you could use $ increments instead - like 11% went up 0 to 10% and 3% went up 10 to 20% and 1% went up (or down) 20% to 30% so on and so forth.
Reply:your questions are all retarded and i wish you would just fall off a cliff. Dirty whore

Are there statistics available regarding children raised by single fathers?
I'm curious to find out if children raised by single fathers have the same tendencies to be truant from school, to use drugs, to wind up pregnant before marriage and often before 18, and to drop out before graduating from High School as children raised by single mothers. If there's any research out there on this I'm very curious to see it.
Are there statistics available regarding children raised by single fathers?
"Investment theory is not supported: mothers’ resources do not benefit children’s scores more than father’s resources do, nor are single mothers more involved in schooling than single fathers are. Instead, the results are consistent with the individualistic perspective of gender: children in mother-present families have an advantage over children in mother-absent families independent of socioeconomic resources, educational expectations, or involvement in schooling."
Couldn't find anything else, sorry. :(

How do I find accurate information and statistics on drug-related crimes for a paper?
I am writing a paper on the Effects of Needle Exchange Programs. I have come across TONS of info about the programs' effects on HIV transmission and drug-use, but I'd like to confront the claim that NEPs contribute to an increase in crime.
I know that often times, drug-related crimes in a city with a NEP may become centralized to the area around the program (because that's where the drug users end up being more often), and that syringe possession w/o a prescription is illegal (possibly altering the actual results by Possession of Paraphernalia crimes).
How can I accurately provide data, especially on more than one city, while taking into account these variables? Where can I find this kind of information?
PLEASE HELP!!! I only have three weeks to come up with this information!

What statistics formula do i need to solve this?
The number of passengers on the Carnival Sensation during one-week cruises in the Caribbean follows the normal distribution. The mean number of passengers per cruise is 1,820 and the standard deviation is 120.
a. What percent of the cruises will have between 1,820 and 1,970 passengers?
b. What percent of the cruises will have 1,970 passengers or more?
c. What percent of the cruises will have 1,600 or fewer passengers?
d. How many passengers are on the cruises with the fewest 25 percent of passengers?
What statistics formula do i need to solve this?
You need to find your z-scores.
a) z = (1970-1820)/120 = 150/120 = 1.25 %26lt;= find this in the standard normal table for get the area under the curve (the percentage)
It gives you .3944, so 39.44%
b) This will be the amount to the right of the part given in a.
So, .50 - .3944 = .1056 = 10.56%
c) z = (1600-1820)/120 = -220/120 = -1.8333
You are looking for the percentage to the left of this so your answer will be: .50 - the number given in the table for 1.83
d) This one you need to look in the values of the table to find where .25 occurs, which is about .675. This is the z-score. Use it to find the maximum number of passengers for cruises with the fewest 25% of passengers.
-.675 = (x-1820)/120
Reply:For any normal random variable X with mean μ and standard deviation σ, can be translated it to standard units so you can use the z tables by z = (X - μ) / σ
a) P(1820 %26lt; X %26lt; 1970) = P(0 %26lt; Z %26lt; 1.25)
= P(Z %26lt; 1.25) - P(Z %26lt; 0)
= 0.8944 - 0.5000
= 0.3943502
b) P(X %26gt; 1970) = 1-P(X%26lt;1970) = 1 - 0.8944 = 0.1056
c) P(X%26lt; 1600) = P(Z %26lt; -1.83) = 0.0336
d) P(Z %26lt; z) = 0.25
z = -0.6745
z = (X - 1820)/120
X = 1820 - 0.6745 * 120
X = 1739.06
X = 1740
Reply:I'd suggest you try Avril Lapoissons semi-distributed polynomial bifunctionalisation of the nth order polynomial.

What is better for the business world? a statistics course or calculus?
Which is more useful and practical? You see business statistic courses out there, but alot of MBA programs want calculus.
What is better for the business world? a statistics course or calculus?
it's not illegal to know both
Reply:A statistics course is better because calculus is used as a means to determine speeds, areas and other forms of conversions.
Reply:I would say stats is more useful for business.
calculus for engineers

I want to know the most recent statistics on injuries from hot air ballooning?
Pa28's answer is a bit long winded (those darn formatting problems), but it has my vote because the web site is extremely interesting; at least to us pilots.
Safety is always job #1, and most balloon rides go off without a hitch. It's difficult to compare apples and oranges, and most balloon rides are of short duration, and there are less of them. But the pilots (if properly certified) are much better trained and more safety-conscious than most fellow car drivers and weekend boaters.
