In statistics, an ogive is the name of a line graph. Where did the ogive get its name?

It makes sense to call a pie chart a pie chart, because it looks round like a pie, but an ogive? It makes no sense!


If possible, please site your source when answering, but FYI, this is not for homework- I'm just curious. Thanks!

Reply:It is from the old English and means an arch of stone; a diagonal arch that looked somewhat like the cumulative frequency graph, the ogive.
